Are you in need of a tool that can help you streamline your field notes, allowing you to focus on observing birds? Have you ever come across birdwatchers using codes for bird species on platforms like listservs and wished you could easily look them up? Do you want a faster way to input your eBird checklists?

Enter alpha codes. These four-letter abbreviations are assigned to bird species as a convenient method of referencing them. Field researchers commonly use alpha codes to quickly record sightings and other situations where writing out the entire species name is impractical. Our app provides a comprehensive collection of alpha codes based on the Pyle and DeSante (2003) system, which covers all 2078 species documented in the AOU (American Ornithologists’ Union) region. With our app, you can effortlessly search for alpha codes either by the bird's name or directly typing in the code.
